My Favourite trick and why

One of my absolute favourite magic tricks is undoubtedly one of the oldest in history—depicted in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics: the cups and balls. This classic illusion skillfully blends a captivating start, an exciting middle, and a surprising conclusion, leaving audiences amazed. In a world ruled by digital technology and high-tech wizardry, it’s remarkable how the simple elements of three cups and three balls continue to fascinate spectators, just as they did thousands of years ago. Some traditions persist for a reason, and the pure, natural nature of the cups and balls is what provides that unforgettable “wow” factor. As an entertainer and sleight-of-hand artist, I relish the chance to demonstrate my skills with this extraordinary trick, using prestidigitation and misdirection at their best. Penn and Teller controversially performed it on television with clear plastic cups—audiences were still completely mystified, proving that true magic transcends time and sophistication.

The Show must go on- Magic 30th birthday party

When you are performing magic you have to be prepared that anything can happen and learn to be flexible and adaptable . Arrived to Wealden Barns in Cowfold to perform at a 30th birthday party to arrive to a dark house as the electricity had all gone .

It was not fusebox which meant waiting for an electrician to arrive and I decided that we may have to improvise somewhat .

There was some battery powered lighting outside and a bar where we put the lights on bar and i proceeded to perform behing the bar . The performance took away the fact the lights had gone for guests and the performance worked perfectly with me ending on a new piece of magic that I have been working on that absolutely smashed it as the ending to the set.

Old magic books from childhood

Found a memory from 40 years ago ,some of my old magic books that i would study study study and perform shows as a ten year old with some of the material . Not having access to photocopiers etc and todays modern technology I would also borrow books from the library and copy all the drawing and write up by hand to document . I would often just keep borrowing the same book time and time again .

After a year and half of delays with various hurdles including the pandemic I am happy to be able to perform at a wonderful wedding in Wiltshire for some very nice guests who gave great reactions and everyone had a great time . Look forward to perform down Wiltshire way again . I even managed to be able to go to Longleat safari park the next day where monkeys trying to destroy my car was not quite as magic .

Its great to be back performing -Booking for 2022

After one of the most difficult years for the entertainment industry there seems to be a glimmer of hope with bookings and enquiries coming in fast and furious . There has been many magicians adapting to things during the lockdown performing zoom shows etc and I have stuck firmly in my belief that magic should be experienced live and have utilised my time in preparing for now and it is paying off .

Magic and looking to 2021

For the entertainment industry 2020 has been obviously a total washout with people finding different ways to cope mentally and financially . I had my first sold out shows for Parlour Magic in 2020 that I put a lot of work into and it has been difficult to have to write that off for the year. Some entertainers have chosen to do online shows of which I truly believe you will never get the same experience of people being together and a night out and above all an experience . Instead of taking the zoom route I truly believe live entertainment will be back and bigger than ever and I decided to focus my energy on preparing for Parlour Magic live that I really hope I can take across the UK in 2021 .

Being the type of person I am I like to try and be optimistic and think ahead to the future and as much as the current trend for zoom shows works for some people I believe the true heart of a good magic performance is that it is live . Live entertainment and live magic in particular is what brings people together . Had a fantastic time meeting new couples at a wedding fayre at the Portsmouth Maritime Club. The Maritime club is a true wonderful venue and it stands directly below a beautiful ceiling where your voice changes with the unusual acoustics.

This was organised by ACS Wedding Events who did a really good job of finding some quality suppliers. I've been to some huge wedding fayre's where it can be a minefield for wedding couples. I think a smaller fayre with a selection of good suppliers works really well. I love performing at wedding fayre's as I feel it is important to book a magician that you can meet in person and also see what you are going to get on the big day.

**CLOSE-UP MAGIC**

I have been, and continue to be, a close-up magician. This type of magic is performed up close for small groups of people, using cards, coins, cups, and everyday objects. Close-up magic is very popular at weddings, private parties, and corporate events, as it serves as a great way to break the ice and keep guests in a cheerful mood.

Watching a skilled and experienced close-up magician is both fascinating and entertaining.

**PARLOUR MAGIC**

Parlour magic can be described as a blend of close-up magic and stage magic. The tricks—often referred to as “effects” by magicians—are more suitable for larger audiences than traditional close-up magic. A prime example is Steve Cohen's Chamber Magic in New York, where the lavish venue and formal dress code create an upscale yet traditional experience.

Parlour magicians typically perform for audiences of up to 50 people, but I prefer to keep it more intimate, aiming for about 15 guests. This makes it feel more personal. Parlour magic is particularly convenient because the props are relatively easy to transport, making it an ideal choice for performances in smaller venues, such as homes.

**Stage Magic**

Stage magic refers to performances that take place on large stages, featuring impressive illusions and extravagant productions. Some of the most renowned stage shows are located in Las Vegas, including Criss Angel's "Mindfreak," which has been running for about ten years.

The most successful magician in history is undoubtedly the legendary David Copperfield, who elevates magic to new heights with a show that runs twice daily throughout the year, executed with flawless precision. If you ever find yourself in Las Vegas, his show is a must-see.
